PARISH OF SANTA MARIA
The parish of Santa Maria do Ermelo appears in the final years of the 16th century, when the Monastery of Ermelo was closed, and it is comprised of two locations: the Church and Vilarinho do Souto. With the church having been handed out to the Archdiocese of Braga, it belongs today to the Archdiocese of Viana do Castelo. The history of this parish has a lot to do with the devotion to Saint Benedict and its patron saint is Santa Maria do Ermelo. The patronal feast is celebrated between the 2nd and the 3rd Sunday of August.
VILARINHO DO SOUTO
Vilarinho do Souto with the chapel dedicated to the Lady of Remedies, Saint Sebastian and Saint Anthony. This is located halfway up the slope of the upper part of the very same place. This is a small chapel made of granite, in which the inhabitants celebrate their faith weekly. The 1st Sunday of the month of August is the day of the festive celebration in honor of the patron saints.
